Our Missional Theology

Mission Begins With God

A one-year program that equips young leaders, ages 18 to 24, through missional learning, spiritual formation, and ministry practice, and sends them into the communities where God has placed them.

Mission originates with the triune God, whose love moves him toward the world. As the Father sent the Son, so the risen Christ sends his people, empowering them through the Holy Spirit to participate in God’s redemptive work (John 20:21–22). Rooted in this understanding of the Missio Dei, Kingdom Impact equips believers to discern their calling and participate faithfully in God’s mission through their local churches.

Kingdom Impact equips the next generation to be sent. Over one year, young leaders between the ages of 18 and 24 explore the biblical foundations of God’s mission and the church’s missional identity, cultivate the spiritual disciplines through which the Holy Spirit forms them in the likeness of Christ, learn to make disciples, and practice ministry in their own communities. Every part of the program points toward one end: that these young men and women, rooted in their local churches, will be sent to participate in God’s mission wherever he has placed them.

Foundations

Five Core Themes

These themes inform the entire program. They are not discrete subjects but complementary dimensions of a single vocation: following Jesus into the world.

  1. Missio Dei

Mission is, first of all, the work of God. The Father sends the Son, the Son sends the Spirit from the Father, and the triune God sends the church into the world (John 15:26; 20:21–22). The church does not possess a mission of its own; it participates in the Missio Dei. Young leaders learn to interpret their lives and ministries within this larger narrative.

  2. Spiritual Formation

The Holy Spirit conforms believers to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18). Through Scripture, prayer, worship, and shared life, Christlike character is formed, so that who these young believers are becoming shapes what they do.

  3. Discipleship

Jesus calls disciples who make disciples (Matthew 28:18–20). Discipleship is understood as a whole-life apprenticeship to Christ, lived in community and entrusted to the next generation (2 Timothy 2:2).

  4. Community Engagement

God’s people are sent to seek the welfare of the places in which he has set them (Jeremiah 29:7). Young leaders learn to listen attentively to their communities, to discern where God is already at work, and to join that work with humility and love.

  5. Mission in Practice

The Gospel is both proclaimed and demonstrated (Luke 4:18–19; James 2:14–17). Young leaders apply their learning through the ministry of their churches and reflect on it theologically, so that action and understanding deepen together.
